I truly love to visit state parks, anytime, anywhere.  Earlier this year I made it my goal to walk all the trails in Turtle River State Park before the end of summer.

Sometimes I do a day trip to the park.  This weekend I rented a cabin and stayed the night on the 4th of July.  I made quite a dent in my trail walk goal.  Some of the trails, like Moosehead, I have walked several times because it leads to trail heads beyond.

Before I left the park, I sat down with my trail map and my yellow highlighter and marked my progress.

I get a good feeling walking these trails, the ups and downs, twists and turns, and long flat stretches, and sometime covering the same ground, that stays with me for a long time.

There’s an abundance of dangerous ticks and mosquitoes here in North Dakota so I always use a good insect repellent, and I apply lots of Lavender oil with it.

Lavender is a natural insect repellent and it’s grounding, refreshing fragrance is perfect on any trail.

  1. I love the photos, especially the first one, with Turtle River. It looks so… calm. Like a place where one can sit down, look at the flowing water and truly relax.
